Hong Kong day 3...Macau!

After splurging on the roasted goose and the dim sum yesterday, we started our third day in Hong Kong with a budget breakfast at a typical cafeteria....
The above set meal cost 20HKD. Its quite filling but definitely not tasty. I thought they could do better with the bread and the eggs. One thing I realised, the tea there is not made with condensed milk like in Singapore...I think they used powdered milk ...I hate powdered milk...I took a sip and thats it.

After breakfast, we decided to pay Huang Da Xian a visit..heard he is really popular with the hong kong people..Just look at the crowd...

Even the drizzle didnt stop them from paying their respects. Well, it didnt stop me either..I mean since I was already there, might as well...anyway I already bought a pack of joss sticks from a old po po on the way and I seriously not tending to walk around with that for the rest of the day. After disposing off all my joss sticks, I got out of the temple like I just survived a volcanic eruption. All the ashes was just unbelieveable...

Before our trip to Macau..the highlight of the day, we went into this "Tung Sui' - Desserts restaurant...at Tsim Sha Tsui...and I got to eat my favorite peanut paste or watever you call it...
Here its made of walnut and gingko nuts..simply delicious! And its cheap!
After a gruelling 1 hr ferry ride to Macau, which I slept through, I was super sianzzz to see this at the custom...Reminded me of my ill fated trip to JB months ago where I spent 2 hrs queuing at the custom to get my passport chopped. Its a monday and there were still so many people going to Macau...whats wrong with these people?! Dont you have to work!? Gambling is not good you know?

Luckily, the guys chopping the passports are much more efficient than our neighbours. We managed to get through in about 45 mins. I actually wanted to go to Sands Casino...it looked so posh...but we hopped into the shuttle bus that took us to Wynn Casino instead.

Anyhow, it didnt really matter, after I donated 50 HKD to the jackpot machine in less than 5 mins, I decided gambling is really not good. So I took off with Kwong and Gary to go shopping and sight seeing instead.

I vaguely remember this casino from a hong kong drama called "Sheng Zhe Wei Wang"....the gambling drama before our very own version of "The unbeatables"...It was the icon of Macau then..but now its been overshadowed by the newer and bigger casinos...how sad..

We walked for quite some time, shopping along the way before we reached the other iconic place of Macau...the St Paul's Ruins....aka Da San Ba...Big 38? I seriously have no idea how St Paul's Ruins translate into Big 38...but what the heck, its beautiful.

Its really interesting to see a huge contrast in the buildings of Macau. On one side, you get the tall, lavish casinoes. on the other side you get all the old buildings that looked like they might collapse any moment.
Next stop, Macau Tower, the place where I shall conquer my fear of heights....erm...not really.

It was really quite scary standing on top of this piece of glass that allowed you see through from 61 floors. You know its not going to crack but it still scares the shit out of you...okay maybe just me. It really was much scarier than it looked in this picture.

Isnt it beautiful up there....The Macau tower, truly amazing...

Our round 2 for the day...shopping at Mongkok...Ladies street...

Even at 11pm the street was bustling with life...so different from our Orchard Road..
We had our supper at another dessert stall called "Hui Lau Shan"...I ordered the thing up there that looked like red bean soup, but its not. Its nice but the carrot cake was even better! Thats my only choice as the rest of the desserts all had mango in them...and I dont eat mango. Well, the rest ordered the mango set so I get to snap a picture.

Before we left, we discovered a place selling BBQ stuff and god it tasted so good...The octopus I was eating was so Q and delicious...what a way to end the day..yum yum..

Hong Kong Day 2

Next day, we went hunting for Dim Sum...we didnt have a place in mind so we just popped into a decent looking restaurant along the way. It was 8 in the morning and the restaurant was already filled up...by mainly old aunties and uncles...we were like the few young guys seated among the ah sok and the si lais..


The dim sum were very nice..except for the xiao long bao which I think our Crystal Jade still holds the crown. I realised Hong Kong restaurants dont have chilli, I asked for lap jiu and the waitress gave me a blank face and say they dont have chilli... This is the famous "Shark Fin Guan Tang Jiao". I always see the people order this in th0se TVB dramas, so its a must try for me. But I was quite disappointed...lol. Its just a huge wanton...no shark fins but just some shredded mushroom and other vegetables..:(
After filling our stomachs, we went in search for some spiritual healing at the Da Fuo "Giant Buddha" at Lan Tau Island. I didnt know there was such a place until Gary said it was the place in Infernal Affairs...Ah...I vaguely remembered. Anyway, the bus ride took about 1 and a half hour to reach the top of the mountain but we still have to climb this flight of stairs to reach the Da Fuo..

Its quite a amazing statue up there...considering it was built on top of a mountain. When I took this photo, it seemed like the Buddha was going to tip over and crash on me...and if that happens I have no where to run...We were not allowed to go to the very top deck as only paying visitors can go up and "turn their fortunes"...oh well...we are on a tight budget so no need for that.

The view up there was truly breathtaking...okay...maybe becos the highest place I ever been to was Mount Faber. Oh...I been to Genting..but there is not much of a view up there.

The highlight of the trip up there is actually the journey down. We took the cable car down the mountain and my god it was scary. I am afraid of heights but okay can still survive this. The 15 mins ride cost 58HKD but it was worth every penny. You get fantastic view up there passing through the mountains.

It was the day of mountain visiting. After getting down from one mountain, we headed to The Peak. We took the ferry ride from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central and got a nice view of the Victoria Harbor...

The buildings at Central are quite different from the building on the other side. Here there were more modern skyscrapers...and as usual they were so densely packed. Its the equivalent of our shenton way. On this sunday evening, the streets were filled with filipino maids...there was this shopping centre that reminded me of Lucky Plaza on a typical Sunday...lol

We were told that this restaurant near Lam Kwai Fung is famous for its roasted goose...and since we were there, we must pamper ourselves. The restaurant is ultra posh, 3 floors with an elevator and the place was nearly full. After checking out the menu, we could only afford half a goose and 2 more dishes to avoid washing the dishes.
This plate of roasted goose cost us 190 HKD...thats nearly 40 SGD and its only half of the goose. In Singapore I could buy a full roasted duck with that kind of money...haha. But it was really good...however, I still cant taste the difference between duck meat and goose meat...and I wonder why there is no roasted goose in Singapore...Is the sale of geese banned here? hmm

As the lights went down, the city came alive with all the beautiful lightings and billboards...

I had a hard time trying to take this photo. I was proning on the ground with the camera on the tripod...and my poor camera narrowly escaped death when Gary nearly crushed it under his foot. People must be thinking I was mad...whats this guy doing there...lying on the floor...lol.

We took the ultra cool Peak Tram to reach "The Peak". It was inclined at 45deg and it went up the mountain super fast...The view from the top was magnificent..undescribeable. I tried so hard to take a nice photo and thats the best I got...It was so freaking cold up there even my adidas jacket couldnt save me. So I decided to take shelter inside the building and take a photo with Kelly Chen instead...
Being the cheapos, we didnt get the tickets to enter the Madam Tussauds Museum...so I just have to settle for Kelly who was nicely placed at the entrance...lol

After a long day, we went for a drink at Lam Kwai Fung before we called it a day. There were so many ang mohs there...My fren was telling me it is very easy to spot a movie star at Lam Kwai Fung....sadly I didnt see any...so I decided to pretend to be one myself...lol.

Hong Kong...Day 1

17th March...waited so long for that day..my trip to Hong Kong!! We took the early flight at 8am to Hong Kong.

I love to take the window seat on the plane...cos I get to see everything like the beautiful view above. I dont know why I am always so excited when the plane takes off. I love to see the entire process...the plane slowly taxi to the runway and then take flight...its just amazing.
After 4hrs, finally we reached Hong Kong!The first thing that greeted us outside the airport was the cool wind! Shiok! How I wished Singapore weather is like that. 19oC how cool is that! We went straight to our hotel at Prince Edward... MetroPark Hotel...My fren Gary booked this Hotel...In fact he planned everything for us...haha. So we just followed him..our Hong Kong Tour guide. The Hotel was quite okay...equiped with all the basic stuff..its cheap but not too shabby. I personally thought that its quite nicely located. ..within walking distance from the nearest MTR station and we were able to get to many places quite easily from there.

The MTR is quite similar to our own MRT...somehow I find it better. At least their information system is much better....you get announcements in english, mandarin and cantonese, at every station and it even tells you at which side the train door is going to open! I was very impressed with this....the board has flashing lights to tell you which stop you are at and which direction you are going towards...this is way better than our plain cardboard display in our MRT.

We were abit lost at first...here, we trying to figure out our way to our first stop...Fa Yuen Street...Flower Garden Street..lol ..direct translation.
That place was so happening! Reminded me of bugis street but much better. There were loads of stuff you can get there...handbags, clothes, chinese new year decorations, fruits, underwear....etc etc..I was truly amazed by how the hongkongers can live right above such a busy street. How could they bear with the noise? But it seems, its a common thing in Hong Kong..most people lived above these busy streets and the housing condition there was quite terrible. Some buildings could seriously do with some repainting. Those overhanging signboards and air conditioning units looked like they could fall on your heads any moment.
After our shopping spree at Fa Yuen Street, we headed to Tsim Sha Tsui ...Victoria Harbor! Gary said its one of the most beautiful night scenery in the world...hmm...perhaps...It was freaking cold there, especially when it started to drizzle...I kinda regretted changing into my thin cardigan. The view was really beautiful. I read a report that Singapore is trying to light up the city area more..I think they have a long way to go man...

How could I miss taking a photograph with this statue ....the trophy for the Hong Kong Academy Awards... Our group photo at Victoria Harbor...

The city just felt more alive with these billboards...After our freezing stay at Victoria Harbor, we went shopping....little did we know that Gary was going to lead us on a mini shopping marathon...we shopped all the way from Tsim Sha Tsui back to our hotel....thats like 5 MTR stops! But we did cover quite alot of places at the expense of our legs...It was only the first night and our legs were so numb from all the walking...haha.

Lasik Surgery Clinic

Sometimes everything just fall into place and things happen so fast you cant believe its happening. Just a few weeks back, I was thinking about Lasik surgery and was asking my fren about the price and everything, but I was just planning. Then a week back I saw this advert in my brother's NSMAN mag about this clinic "Lasick Surgery Clinic" and I sent an email to ask some questions, next thing I know they called me up and I got a date for my pre op evaluation test! And today I went for the test and I got a date for my operation - 5th April!! Thats like less than a month away...Hmm, pre op evaluation test, lasik for 2 eyes plus 3 post op review, one yr free enhancement ..all these for a package cost of $2500! (Safra member discount) Think its not a bad deal, I mean I am not even a safra member, but my brother is and they allow me to have the discounted price...nice!. How nice it will be to wake up without having to search for my spectacles....its been 15 years...cant wait to have my perfect vision back.

Loh Hei!!

Later going to "loh hei" with my parents. Its kinda weird as it is going to be a very muted "loh hei" unlike the normal times when pple will scream their lungs out with "auspicious" words. Well, my family is dysfunctional anyway and I bought the yusheng just to make my parents happy. At least they get to 'loh hei' ...I guess the process is important, not the words...haha.

This morning I went to a temple at west coast to pray to a certain god..I am not really sure which god ...but I think he is called "Tai sui". For some reason, this year I 'fan tai sui', so have to go pay my respects so that he will be nice to me. Its really funny that as far as I can remember, I always fan tai sui every other year and have to go and pay my respects. Who is this "tai sui" anyway? Why everyone just pisses him off every other year like its a routine thing? Sometimes really dont understand all these chinese customs. If he is a god, he should be nice to everyone...why "ji jiao" with us...and be pissed. And we didnt even do anything in the first place! Somehow, its been predetermined that in this year of the pig, those born in the year of the "snake, monkey and tiger" fan tai sui. Oh well, since they say so...so just go pay my respects lor...like the chinese people always say "qiu ge xin an". Hope this year will be a good year for me! Dont tekan me hor , almighty tai sui!

To cut or not to cut?

My hair is getting long..I am not sure if I want to cut it. Its been 2 months since I had my last haircut...maybe I cant bear to cut it...I not even sure if I want to do anything to it..should I dye it black again? Jet black....then just leave it as long as I can..lol. I cant believe I am bothering myself with such trivial matters....Tomorrow start work liao...so fast the long awaited cny holiday is over...abit sian but have to jia you!!

New Name for the new year?

This is the 27th Chinese New Year I am celebrating...dont know why I dont feel the same way as when I was younger. I used to be very excited, cos can eat chocolates, can wear nice clothes and most importantly can get ang baos...But as I grow older I think everything just become so normal....I can eat chocolates whenever I feel like it, I buy new clothes when I feel like it and I dont have to care about the ang bao money...its not much anyway..every year its just about a hundred bucks...no big deal anyway. And growing older have added responsibilities... I have to buy all the new year stuff..have to fight with the aunties at the supermarket and have to clean the house and my mum just told me straight in the face "Your brother every year give me 100 bucks , so this year you must give me ah" ....kao.

Anyway, just thinking of changing my chinese name.. hated my chinese name since primary school...王雲超....Ong Hoon Chau...Pple just can get my name right...or make fun of it...
What superman in the clouds, smelly cloud...Ong Boon Chow...etc...damn irritated. I really should change my name...and I have thought of one ...王澤倫 ...hehe. Nice ? Yes, No? Next I think I have to go find out the procedures required to make it official...New name for the new year...woohoo!

Gosh, I am such a spendthrift!

Went shopping yesterday..Spent a total of 300 over bucks on clothes!! 3 working shirts, a pair of pants, a belt and a pair of levis jeans....Haha, first time I spent so much in a single day. Felt quite guilty but also quite satisfied with what I bought. Maybe its time I pamper myself. I should do more shopping. lol

Unexpected...

There are so many things in life you cannot predict. Just when you thought your life sucks so bad, something happens and changed everything...ok maybe not everything..but enough to make you feel better. Suddenly 2007 seems like its going to be a much better year for me...and I seriously hope it will turn out to be. The unexpected put me closer to my goals...and I am going to really work hard from now on!!
